    Description

    Chicken Oats
    Give your girls a treat!
Easily grow tender, green oats for your backyard chickens . . . a great treat!
Your chickens will love Chicken Oats!
Simply plant the seed in any flower pot (even an ice cream pail will do) filled with soil (dirt).
Cover with 1/2-1 inch of soil, water daily, and watch the oats appear.
When the oats are 3-6 inches tall, place the entire pot in your chicken's enclosure and watch them enjoy!
When finished, replant and start the process over again!
    3 pounds of oat seed
    90% germination (test date 3/21)
Depending on temperature, your oats should be ready to feed to your chickens in approx. 2 weeks
We keep several pots growing all the time, ensuring there will be a fresh pot of oats for our chickens every couple of days
YOU CAN EVEN GROW SOME IN THE HOUSE FOR FRESH GREENS ALL YEAR!  We grow them inside during our Wisconsin winters!
    What kind of soil (dirt)?
Any, just make sure it does not contain any fertilizer or other additives that you don't want your chicken eating!
    Sprout "Soil-less" method:
Soak seed overnight in water.  Drain.  Place seed (1/4 to 1/2 inches deep) in any low container with holes in the bottom (have another container underneath to catch water that drains through, set up so the seed is not sitting in water once drained).  Water twice a day, allowing to drain into container below. They will sprout and grow, feed when they reach about 4 inches (if you see any mold, don't feed -- they shouldn't mold if draining correctly).
Feed it all (oat grass, roots and hulls) . . . your chickens will LOVE it!!
