    Title:
Ancient Khmer Bronze Ceremonial Ear Ornaments.  Angkorian Period. 9th to 12th Century.
    Description:
A rare matching pair of bronze ceremonial earrings discovered during an old temple archaeological excavation near the Siem Reap Province of northern Cambodia.
    xxxx
The earrings originate from the ancient Khmer civilization during the Angkorian period between the 9th to the 12th century, and were worn by women of high social standing, for adorning the lobes of their ears, and usually worn during special occasions for festival processions, or a temple offering, or participate in a ceremony.
    xxxx
Traditional Khmer ear ornaments of the period were of a heavy weight, that eventually cause elongated earlobes, as viewed in many well-preserved stone bas-relief carvings found at a number of Historic Buddhist and Hindu temples, depicting standing figures like Courtisan Female Apsaras adorned with elongated earring pendants.
